Transformation Tuesday - From "Loud" To "Peaceful"

Remember the '80s? Well this living room "before and after" photos is like traveling in a time machine in the movie, Back To The Future. We brought this living room straight out of the '80s and into the present!

The "before" photo shows an outdated brass ceiling fan, heavy wood furniture and bold fabric on the couches. We have given this living a space an updated calm and peaceful feel. Our clients have said, "The room and the calm and cool colors make us feel like we are living in a spa."

A cozy sofa with an attached chaise faces the corner fireplace. The sofa offers the perfect spot to relax and unwind. A storage ottoman was chosen instead of a coffee table. This was done to create a spot to store blankets, as well as add extra seating in the room when necessary and a spot for one to put their feet up after a long day. The lamps flanking the sofa were refurbished by the designer herself. (See the "before and after" photos below.)

This is the "before" and "after" of the refurbished lamps. This look was accomplished by using chalk paint. Sometimes we have an old piece that just needs a new look. Not everything has to be purchased new. Sometimes old can become new again with a little bit of creativity. We love projects like this! Our client was very happy with the end result.

The freestanding entertainment center was designed and custom-built for a more modern look for the client to display some of her treasures, all while housing the family's TV and other technology. An entertainment center should compliment your living room, not take center stage. This one adds some visual interest.

Do not be afraid to use color and pattern! The skillful mix of the shades of blues and grays is intermixed with pops of coral. This makes the space more inviting. A pair of swivel glider chairs (one of our best sellers if I may add) face the living room, however, they are very versatile. They can swivel around and become part of the open-concept eat-in kitchen area.

Something to keep in mind, designing and decorating are two different things. We here at K Design LLC are here to help you create a space specific for your needs and for your style. This particular living room has everything from custom-built furniture to refurbished items to pops of color to versatility! We carry quite a few furniture lines to suit your every need. We also have craftsman who will custom-build a piece of furniture specific to your space. Fabric samples and books line our walls to help create the space of your dreams. We are here to turn your home into the home of your dreams! Let us know what you think of this redesigned space!
